Welcome to our new WAEA website!
Given the current extension of a stay at home order in New Mexico, the suggested prohibition of large gatherings in New Mexico, many states having 14 day quarantine orders for out-of-state travel (including New Mexico), and many of our members’ Universities forbidding travel past the scheduled dates of our meeting, our executive council voted unanimously to cancel our in-person meeting at our venue in Santa Fe as of May 15, 2020. The LaFonda has been notified. They will be cancelling the event, cancelling reservations, and refunding any deposits for those who have reserved rooms under the WAEA block.

In anticipation of this outcome, Dr. Eric Belasco and myself, have been investigating virtual conference platforms. Our council is generally very interested in offering a high quality virtual conference. Our strongest desire is to offer our members, WEC professionals, graduate students and other potential attendees high quality professional development opportunities.
Our preferred platform offers opportunities for live real time presentations, the ability to have multiple concurrent sessions, keynote/plenary sessions, ability to have presentations recorded, an electronic agenda that allows attendees a point and click environment to choose and move between sessions seamlessly, live on demand opportunities to network with your colleagues or friends via video or chat features, all with the click of a button. To cover software costs and tech support, we would have to require a very modest registration fee ($25 to $45 per person).
Before proceeding we want to gauge interest from presenters and potential attendees. To that end, very quickly, we will be sending out a brief survey with a quick turnaround to provide guidance on how to best provide value to our members and potential attendees.
These are difficult times, but we have a great opportunity to still remain connected and relevant!
Look for more details shortly.
